Former Prosecutor: Fla. Judge Could Block Jack Smith in Trump Case

Former prosecutor Bill Shipley said U.S. District Court judge Aileen Cannon could hamper special counsel Jack Smith’s case against Donald Trump by blocking him from using evidence against the former president.

Evan Corcoran, a lawyer hired by Trump to fend off a federal investigation into his handling of sensitive documents, last year was compelled to testify before a grand jury in Washington.

He wasn’t charged in the indictment unsealed by Smith but was presented as a key Trump confidant who was deceived by the former president as he allegedly sought to stymie Justice Department efforts to recover classified documents he kept at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after leaving the White House in January 2021.
