Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Tuesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not notify the city before conducting the raids carried out last Friday, CNN reported.

During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Bass said that the city is relying on “reporting from the community” for information about immigration raids in Los Angeles, noting that “as of now” her office was unaware of any ICE raids or operations being carried out that day.

Bass also noted that the city was peaceful Thursday, the day before the ICE raids began, saying, “There was nothing going on here that warranted the federal intervention that took place the very next day. If we want to look at the cause of what is happening here, I take it back to raids that took place on Friday.”
